What a Gay Day?

Sandy maunders about the lack of an Official Line on same-sex relations in Glorantha:
> I picture

On the other hand, it'd be a bit strong if one were _required_ to be a trickster to exist as a homosexual, as it would effectively make it a capital crime. (Not that Sandy suggested this.)

Perhaps it's regarded as "gender role reversal gone too far"; snide gossips probably suggest the Vingans are a tad on the butch side, while joining a woman's earth cult removes some of the imperatives to behave in the classicly Orlanthi Macho Bull Shit manner.

> PRAX: shamans are expected to participate in homosexual rituals. It's
> consider unwholesome for non-shamans. Probably the shamans use slaves
> or apprentices to sate their lusts.

Pent might be vaguely similar is this regard, though with the addition of a handy supply of gelded male slaves, should the need arise.

> MALKIONI: clearly a sin against the Invisible God. I suspect
> homosexuality has a presence among the celibate Rokari priests, but
> 'tis hidden as much as possible.

I bet this is right, for wholly pragmatic reasons, and not just for reasons of Certain RW Analogues It'd Be In Poor Taste To Mention. If you're a Loskalmi, I suppose you just have to go sublimate it by waving a large sword around. cf., _The Iron Dream_? ;-)

> KRALORI: homosexuals are required to register with the Imperial
> Bureaucracy and join the cult of Gen Ke. Homosexuality is considered
> to be an incurable, non-transmissable disease.

Perhaps we should compell Sandy to produce the canoical list of such incurable, non-transmissable diseases? I bet it could get highly entertaining. ("Suspected Foreigner" may be a sort of catch-all, in this category.)

Vormain: whatever floats ones boat, assuming you have the dosh for the courtesan's bill. Lesbianism is probably much less tolerated than male homosexuality, or at least less commercially viable.

> EAST ISLES: no particular opinion.

> DORADDI: the Doraddi reaction to homosexuality is much the same
> reaction they have to seeing someone eating whale blubber. "Blech."

Sounds like an "It'd scare the horses" attitude...

These two sound almost _too_ tolerant. In both cases I'd imagine both a certain amount of regional variation, and the odd Deeply Repressed Latent Type to pick on practitioners.

Sandy doesn't mention Peloria. I think there were some vague Greggly allusions to Pelandan male homosexuality, so that's an Official First. I'm sure the Dara Happans gets desperately uptight about it, but probably have at least the Going Rate going on, not least because of their generally doubtful attitude to women. The Lunars are probably so tolerant of this (at least Officially), they'd make Pat Cafilia blush. How this works out in practice in the Heartlands sounds three-paracetamol- headache inducing.

Alex.
