I thought it was a great idea. Wish I'd said that (You will, Oscar, you will.)

Odd. It was in the page proofs on page 38, between Bloat and Joint Rot. I haven't seen a final copy yet. Anyways, here it is: "Boggle Trot is a digestive ailment which causes nausea, stomach pain, and diarrhea, resulting in bodily weakness and general misery. In game terms, the victim's STR is reduced by 1 per attack."

Durn tootin'. And thanks for your support.

Sandy refutes my broad view of Malkionism and suggests some fine (political) reasons for attending an Ecumenical Council. Certainly, the Council LARP was (from all accounts) a mostly political scene. I regret that I wasn't able to be in it.

I'm not going to nit-pick with Sandy except for one point: the big split, as Sandy points out, was between the pre- and post-God Learner groups (roughly Stygian and Hrestoli, plus side groups). Let's say that the differences between them are comparable to the differences between, say, Presbyterians and Roman Catholics, rather than between the sycretistic Santerians and the Greek Orthodox
Church. So, similar social role, vaguely similar church government, some identical basic precepts (like Salvation through Grace).

Even so, few Presbyterians would accept veneration of the Saints, or calling Mary "Mother of God." Few Catholics would care for the gloomy and watered-down services of the Presbyterians (the white Presbyterians, anyway). So unity wouldn't be very popular. Maybe that's not its point. Hmm, this was more thinking out loud than nit-picking. Sorry.

As a side note, let me mention that I have a Sunni Muslim friend who says that the Shi'ites are not Muslims. And I met a Mormon who said the folks who still practice polygamy are *vile* *heretics* and therefore not Mormons. I'm always a little leery of people's definitions of terms as a result, and let people define themselves (as opposed to defining others). You can't define Malkionism to exclude people who call themselves Malkioni, no matter how heretical they are. (I'm not suggesting anyone is; just that it's a danger.)

GAWINTER: Very best wishes to you.

Vallayer asks about Umathela and Umath:

Umathela has been (briefly) described in print. Unfortunately, this was in the very obscure magazine "Breakout." The land is cool, for Pamaltela, with Orlanthi in the river valleys and Malkioni in the coastal cities. Elves are important, especially in the interior.
