Dennis Hoover mentioned the game Republic of Rome during his discussion of Lunar Dart Wars.
Let me say this is game can be great fun! I have played it about a dozen times, and recently bought a copy. The rules are written in AH's typically opaque style, but it is the *roleplaying* elements of this boardgame that make it so much fun. Last time we played my mate Trev got videos of various tits 'n togas epics (Spartacus, Ben Hur, and the biggest of 'em of Cleopatra), and we played them in the background while the game went on. I ended up with Cato in my faction, and so ended all my speeches with "Delenda est Carthago", later debased to "We gotta go kill those dirty Punes!"
Late one night, with the republic falling around us, someone came up with the idea that you could re-write Republic of Rome as the Dara Happan or Lunar senate. It'd be good!
