This tendency is on the whole a healthy thing, IMHO: true, it can be taken to excess, but questioning the received, simplified, streamlined version of Gloranthan mythology is a neat way to set up surprises for your players. When I'm developing a culture for gaming, I like to make things "similar to" the monomythic version of events, but then bring in differences or distortions in key areas. One thing you can do is ask, "What would this (known) culture have been like if their mythology stopped at THIS point, or if they were saved a different way in the Grey Age?"

The God Learners weren't Wrong, but they weren't Right. (Unlike the Lunars, who are both at the same time!).
