        Welcome back Nick - how did we manage without you?

        But I have to question some of your comments...
        [matching 7M - 7LBQ]

>My own crude version would be:
>
>Jakaleel the Witch Issaries
>Teelo Norri Flesh Man
>Queen Deezola Chalana Arroy
>She Who Waits Ginna Jar
>Yanafal Tarnils Eurmal
>Irrippi Ontor Lhankor Mhy
>Danfive Xaron Orlanth

>Probably the three "controversial" ones are Jakaleel/Issaries (but who
better to
>watch your path on a journey through Hell than a Darkness Witch?),
>Yanafal/Eurmal (but the association of Death and the Trickster is ancient, and
>Yanafal's most famous story is how he fooled Humakt in a duel), and
>Danfive/Orlanth (nobody on this list, I am sure, can see how Orlanth might
>become a bandit, rapist and murderer from a Pelorian perspective).

        Personally, I think that it is either

YT -> Orlanth
DX -> Issaries
JK -> Eurmal

or
YT -> Orlanth
DX -> Eurmal
JK -> Issaries

        Think about who Orlanth was to the Dara Happans - basically, someone
whose main mythic act is to murder the Emperor, and be a rebel and outlaw. Being thought of as a murderer is no problem to a Humakti, and Yanafals is already rebelling against the Carmanians, and goes on to rebel against his divine lord (Humakt) as well. I think there is a case for Danfive Xaron having the guide and watcher functions of Issaries (and he does seem to have a thing for boats), but he is also a bad guy. I don't think the Dara Happans have the same attitude to Tricksters as the Orlanthi - none of this 'outside the law, so sometimes you get away with it stuff' - I think to the Dara Happans tricksters are quite obviously wicked and something they would rather do without, not a necessary evil, which makes Danfive more likely a reasonable candidate. So I can see Danfive being either.

        As to your theory that it is the women who are initially illuminated, and suspect what they are doing, it has a lot of merit. Looking at it from the Dara Happan gender roles perspective, it makes a lot of sense. I was looking at what they actually seem to have done with their illumination, myself. The only three who really seem to use their illumination to avoid cult strictures are YT, IO and Jakaleel. But Jakaleel uses it mostly to avoid being savaged by the ZZ cult when she begins consorting with chaos (well after the LBQ), while YT and IO seem to have more calculatedly used their illuminated viewpoint to pervert aspects of the LBQ in order to gain useful powers, which suggests to me that they were illuminated before setting out on it. Comments?

        Cheers

                David
