Black Fang

Black Fang has recently reared its ugly head in my game.

I pretty much agree with Sandy's version of the cult. I like the new spell (Hide Fetch). I also note that full writeups of Shatter and Divination Block are in the Thief cult writeup in GoG. I generally give them Conceal as well, partly because it makes them more dangerous, and partly because in RQ2 Krarsht actually got access to Conceal via Black Fang (not that I believe this to actually be the case that a big cult like Krarsht is dependent on a minor spirit cult like BF - but I think BFs possession of the spell is well established). From all of this BF must have been quite a hero - the BF cult seems to have better divine magic than any thief cult except Lanbril.

Speaking of which, anyone done a 3rd edition writeup of Lanbril? The RQ2 version had way too many new spells and skills, but maybe they are simply the range available from the whole cult, a small subset of which will be available in any given temple. I have given my Lanbril PC Divination Block, but I am not sure about their other spells.

In my game BF is pretty much in the pocket of Krarsht currently. This has been deliberately fostered by GimGim, so that he is able to use his Krarsht connections to properly control the BF cult, and have a good source of assassins. Basically, Lunar Intelligence in Pavis (Prax in general, actually) has virtually no home grown assassins (except maybe GimGim, but he is not going to get his hands dirty on anyone less important than Argrath if he can possibly avoid it) so if Lunar Intelligence tries to assassinate you, the chances are that they will do it by using a Black Fang assassin, to whom they have ready access. And many of the BFers are Krarshti as well, thus making them even more vicious. They don't really make their living assassinating people (there are far too few decent contracts in Pavis to really make it worthwhile) but they probably maintain that they do as a matter of pride. Actually the tough BFers (shamans and assassins) make a living by lording it over the initiates, and the initiates variously burgle, mug, run hazia, extort, loan shark, sell poisons and drugs, and all the other fun stuff. They tend to leave complicated thievery and specialist stuff like pickpocketing to the Lanbril rings. They are fairly confident that if they get caught, GimGim will do his best to hush it up.

        Cheers

                David
