The parallel can only be carried so far. The Kingdom Warriors, unlike a real fire, can "jump" the gap. Devastating a hundred miles around the KoW would slow down their rate of increase, because their armies would be forced to garrison distant lands and there would be heightened travel time from the core to the borders. Also, their army would be somewhat more thinly spread than they might like, because they'd have been forced to expand more swiftly territorially than their usual technique.
