Well, I think first you have to differentiate between the role playing system and the role playing world. My personal setup is to use the Runequest battle system and character generation with HarnWorld and Harnworld magic. I tried for awhile to use the Runequest magic in Harn but it did not fit well enough. I add the Harn system Will attribute and equate Aur and Pow to complete the picture.

Now for the reasons that I do this. First, when I started it all the Harnmaster system had not come out and I was so fed up with AD&D that I needed something and could not wait (and once started it is easier to incrementally change). But also I have not switched to Harnmaster combat because of perceived book-keeping problems. This depends upon the type of group you have. My group is composed of people who get together for a night out once a week or so. None are obcessed with Role Playing (except me). It is hard enough for most of us to remember the more simplified (but less realistic) Runequest rules, let alone the HarnMaster ones. I have done a couple of Harnmaster combats and I think that for people who are well versed and practiced with them that time to play should be the same, but I think for a group that might go a month between sessions it would get frustrating (IMHO). Thus, we stick to Runequest for combat.

As for the Glorantha world, I just could never get around the idea of talking ducks! Sorry all you Glorantha types (if there are any) - but that is how I see it. The, admittedly early, version of Glorantha that I have also portrays a very confusing collection of religons and sects and ... I require my world to be self consistant - therefore Harn is the place for my gaming.
