Hang on a minute! Sacred Time is (from a GL viewpoint) when the natural order of the world is annually reaffirmed. If the major threat to your 'world' is not Chaos but Barbarians, then "saving the world" means having a more impressive Sacred Time HQ ritual than the Barbarians do. (Or the Imperial tax collectors. Or the tribe down the road. Or whatever).

Maybe the Unholy Trio have their HHDs in Sacred Time because it's "Time outside Time": like the Celtic Samhain, a day and a night which weren't within normal reality, when the spirits of the dead were free to come out from the Otherworld and wander around trick-or-treating for Gwyn ap Nudd.

Calendar buffs: the middle weekend of Sacred Time is the Spring Equinox. Get out all your comparative religion handbooks and look at the stuff that goes on then (fasting: the king ritually interred and resurrected: the Fool's Rule: all that jazz). The Equinox is a peculiarly delicate moment that maybe "re-balances" day and night; if the Unholy Trio were successful, they could knock the world out of kilter again. Lucky the Lunar Empire is so dedicated to Balance, and can persuade them not to!
