I dunno what everyone else is claiming, but I think that alynxes are solitary predators, like mountain lions. They shouldn't be made into social hunters because they ought to be like house cats, not like feline versions of dogs.
If they're cat-like, then folks who own cats or empathize with cats get to have a Gloranthan critter that acts like their pet, but is useful in game terms. If a PC wants a dog-like pet instead, he can get a dog anyway.
