Yes. The only difference between the Gloranthan and the real universe in that the Gloranthan one is not a closed system. True Chaos surrounds it, and transfer is possible, one way only. In the real universe, only entropy threatens. In the Gloranthan one, you can fight global entropy, at the price of letting chaos inside. But this threatens the very fabric of the world itself. The dynamics of the world are therefore more complex than the "real" ones. This can explain why many theories are spawned, which all can seem true from a partial point of view.

Only illuminates can feel this delicate vision (only not in these "technical" terms). But once they know this, they also know that every action lead to certain doom. This is why they are still free to act according to their wishes. They have the freedom to do whatever they want, because in the end, it will not matter at all. Adding this to their considerable powers makes them a major threath to the world. Only inactive illuminates are harmless, but are there any ?

And you are right about the magicians increasing entropy overall. The only thing that can "save" the world is the decline of magic. When no magician is able to burn power that way, entropy's progress will slow down.
