River Folk

Hi, All -

A quick note while catching up-

Brian K. Curley asks:

"So where do the Riverfolk (ala River of Cradles) and their language of Boatspeech fit in here? Is it a dialect of Praxian or from another language family all together?"

I play the Riverfolk as related to the Oasisfolk - both decended from the original inhabitants of Genert's Garden. So Riverspeech and the Oasis Tongue are somewhat related. The Riverfolk are more successful at resisting the nomads than the Oasisfolk, however, because they can retreat to the river and hide in the marshes - hostile places for hooved animals. And since the animal nomads like to use the River to water their herds, the nomads may treat the Riverfolk better so as not to be ambushed at vulnerable times. Riverfolk can also tell the nomads where to drink so their herds are not savaged by Mudshark.

Riverfolk fish for a living - so they don't rely on vulnerable and predictable vegetable crops, which can be easily stolen.

Pam
