Wouldn't every culture have it's own view of the "exalted" state of consciousness? Dunno what for the Malkioni, "direct" communication with your god for a theist, some kind of enlightenment for a mystic, lucidity for an East Isles dreamer, discorporation onto the spirit plane for a shaman, transformation into your totem beast for a hsunchen etc. Illumination exists for all, but with different implications depending on which spiritual direction you come from.

This sounds like a very good meta-magical explanation, i.e. the unified field theory of Gloranthan magic, to me. This is good!
