Loren on Onslaught

Loren hits the mark pretty well on Onslaught; overdone. After his first appearance I thought, "is this supposed to be Harrek in disguise?" Evidently not. Onslaught's problem is that one hot (well, may be that should be very hot) Lunar priestess would blow him to flinders. Two medium power priestesses would certainly be able to do the trick.

Picture: Onslaught ready for the fight with Arreth, the Lunars tell him to surrender. He refuses. The Seven Mothers priestess steps up and hits him with a Lune. Then a second Lune. Then a salamaner if he's still moving (not that good a possibility, as a Lune's mindblast-like affect can drop you even if you succeed at your power resistance roll). While he's fighting off the salamander (he can't ignore it, itl'l grapple him), the priestess is blowing down all his magical protection; Onslaught's ally is blowing all of it's power healing the fire damage from the immolation. By the time Onslaught is done with the salamander, he's ready for a binding, a befuddle, (and if he's real unlucky) a Mindblast.

In short, it's easier to beat someone that strong by playing your strength up against his weakness, rather than by matching him. If he's Humakti, he certainly isn't going to have three Dismiss Elementals. His magic is concentrated on melee. Hit him before he closes; that's how guns superceded swords.

I did like the way the stories draw a contrast between Arreth and Onslaught, though. An interesting read.
