I thought BG was the AVENGING GODDESS; avenging the RAPE of the
Earth. She has more in common with rape victims and revenge than
adolescence...unless you feel that rape is a part of growing up...and given
the incidences of date rape, it might be.
FFL
My (low context) point re. the FFL/Dahomy post is
- The Dahomy Amazons have not been shown to be a genuine Military Unit.
- Even if they were, they might have been more used to dealing with
foes who DID run away. In other words, they may not have been that
skilled...they just had a Mean Reputation. They were used to conquering
thru intimidation.
- The FFL, and Senegalese (better than the FFL), would not run
(They are definitely hardened Professionals), therefore the Amazon's
attacks could not succeed. Had they not been Hardened Vets, THEN
they would have been slaughtered!
- If the Amazons were the EQUAL of the Legionaires (et al) - which
they were NOT - and if they had been armed with EQUAL weapons -
which they were NOT - then they might have triumphed.
- In Esrolia, the Amazons (BG Axe-maidens, Vingans, Yelornans or
whoever else) ARE THE EQUALS of their foes. They are armed with EQUAL
weapons. Therefore, it is not unreasonable to presume they might
triumph.
- It may be said that the BG's might be SUPERIOR to your typical
Orlanthi Farm-boy/warrior. They spend their time preparing for battle
while he spends it drinking and boasting. The occasional cattle raid is
more akin to a college "panty-raid" and i'm sure that he's more
comfortable sticking women with something other than his sword (when he
can't get any sheep, of course). In battle he would be fighting next to
his kin... their deaths would have a dispiriting effect on his morale
whereas the BG's would feel no immediate sense of loss at the death of
an Axe-sister.
