raiders

  Hi all,

Many raiders follow a rather simple law: "Everything within my reach that is not nailed to the ground is mine"

Andrew Joelson made a good point in saying that mounted raiders are hard to catch, in fact any raider is hard to catch for a standing army.

The aim of the tactic I described is to keep the valuables out of the raiders' reach. The principle is simple, once the alarm is sounded, everyone goes to the shelters or the hiding places. The fortifications don't need to be expensive, for example if the house are built with stone, they can be built in circle, their gates facing the interior of the village. Or the temple (in Europe it was the church), is reinforced so that it can serve as a stronpoint.

Those fortifications won't stand against invaders, but if the raiders are stupid enough to try to besiege them, the army (in the western, we would say the cavalry) can come to the rescue.

The possibility to catch raiders is only a bonus. And in life, everyone deserves a bonus (Die Hard III, I think).

After a time, when many would-be raiders have come back empty handed or killed, they will stop the raids.

Argan Agar protector from darkness
Magasta protector from water
Babeester Gor avenging daughter from the earth Yelmalio protector from light
Orlanth protector from air
Urox protector against chaos

Elmal would be too linked to the air, to keep the balance between the other elements.
For me it makes sense.

	Peace
		Jean
