Arkat and Chaos

Peter 'trampled by a high horse' cites:

> I refer you to the Notes from Nochet (#8, I think) which quotes a scholar
> as saying the Kings of Tanisor turned to Vampirism and Gbaji to attempt
> to ward off Arkat. Of course he might be talking a load of Bollocks...

Greg said something *very* similar the first time I heard him speak, at Games Day '85: the Kings of Tanisor turned to the Dark Side in order to resist the advance of Arkat's army. As far as I know, this is near to the heart of the True Secret History of the Chaos Wars. Sorry to anyone whose view of Arkat/Gbaji the Traitor as a Noble, Selfless Paladin of Truth and Justice is hurt by this.

Pam tells a good Hill of Gold, then asks a:

Most likely, it's because the Troll should have ripped the horse's wings off: "The greatest sore was when Zorak Zoran tore off her golden wings, laughing as he robbed her of ever returning to the sky." (Tale of the Horse, WF p.61). Since the questers defeated the Troll, this (temporarily/mythically) "didn't happen" for them, then. Of course, when they came down from their heroquest, she was (mostly) back to normal.

Theoretically, I suppose this could be an end-of-the-Second-Age manifestation of the same "reconstruction of Hippogriff" which happens again at the end of the Third Age among the good ol' Char-Un (with their new- and old-fangled flying, fire-breathing, carnivorous, fanged-and-clawed, etc. steeds). The local dominance of the powers of Fire and Sky after completion of the Hill of Gold battle might well cause such effects, IMHO. Or might it also be something to do with the form of Yu-Kargzant, the Sun Horse?
