John Brown:

Wonders about the 'strange fragment' in KoS.

>Obviously it is a fragment of part of the sea journey in someone's LBQ. I am
>interested in hearing other's opinions as to which person's LBQ it is. It is
>obviously not Orlanth's but whose is it?

Harmast.

Joerg Baumgartner:

Me>>Well the Devil's appearance in the Second Age was probably that Chaos

>Ok, there was a chaos infestation in Slontos, according to the information
>available, and we know that Slontos sunk, but where did you get the idea
>that the Luatha were involved?

Well in the previous year, 1049, the Luatha sunk Seshnela (described in the Lore Auction in the RQ-Con II compendium. In 1050 ST, Slontos *and* Jrustela roll over. In 1051 ST, Kralorela is devastated by a massive earthquake (aka 'The Dragon's Awakening Shudder' which is said in Elder Secrets to be the result of Godunya casting of the anthromorphic shackles of the New Dragons' Ring). Now can you spot the pattern? The Luatha are doing a similar magic to the Closing IMHO.

>IIRC "Slont(ol)a rolled over to extinguish the chaos horror upon her body".

Where did this come from?

Me>>As a historical example: The Ralians believe that the Sun is Ehilm
>>who appeared to them as a historical person. They do not know anybody
>>called Yelm nor do they have any myth of Ehilm going over the Mountains.
>>Ehilm came from Brithos, ruled and was killed in Ralios.

>Do you have more details for this?

Well it is my belief that after Ehilm was desposed as King of Logic by Malkion the Lawgiver for the Sin of Pride, he crossed the Neleomi Sea to the continent of Genertela and set up a Kingdom there and held court in Hrelar Amali after wedding the Goddess Ralia. Eventually Humath challenged him in a series of contests for the hand of Ralia and won (the barbarians now say that it was Orlanth who did so). However Ralia was needed to celebrate the fertility rites at Hrelar Amali. Humath feared that once she went to Hrelar Amali, Ehilm might not let her return. So he forbade Ralia to leave. Her absence at the rituals caused a famine to afflict Ehilm's lands and so he summoned his army and marched off towards Humath's lands to compell Humath to let Ralia leave. Humath met Ehilm in battle and slew him thus beginning of the LBQ in Ralios.

[Yes, this is somewhat different from the description given in 'How Humakt came to Brithos', but that is far from being objective history. Some details in the above are from David Dunham].

Slightly related to this:
>From what I have been shown of Jonat Saga (Greg 1967), Ehilm was contacted
>by a Galanini queen a few generations before Jonat passed through that land

I've thought I've explained this before, but here goes:

The document does not preclude Ehilm from being *known* among the Galanini *before* this. IMO It refers to the *re-establishment* of the royal Ehilm lineage among the Galanini as the originals had been wiped out by Arkat and/or the God Learners. (Think of Avivath's attempts to restore a Solar Emperor to the throne of Raibanth). The presense of Ehilm in mythical Ralios explains among other things the gold usage of the Galinini in Bertalor's time (1st century ST), the worship of Yelorna as attested in the Broken Council Guidebook and why the Galinini *chose* Ehilm and not some other god, like Elmal frex.

SimonP>>True, the Brithini believe there were no gods, that everyone in
>>Godtime was a bad sorcerer who strayed from the paths. Of course,
>>they are wrong.

>Modern day Brithini don't believe in the existance of gods. Old-time
>Brithini knew all the gods (or their region), worshipped none of them, but
>had their wizards propitiate or summon them.

The Brithini then and now recognize Impersonal Magic Forces. They do not believe that Ehilm is the Sun but instead know him as having mastered Solar Powers. The Old Malkioni were the ones who propitiated and summoned the Gods (after the I Fought We Won Battle).

DC>>>...various [Kh][Y]Elmal[io] deities

Me>>You mispelt [Kh/Y]El[e]mal[io/us]. Hope this helps. }B-)

>Actually, David mispelt (sp?) [Kh/Y]E[hi]lm[al][io/us]... ;o>

                                  ...

Surely you don't mean [Kh/Y]E[hi]l[e]m[al][io/us]?
