Jeff Richard claimed of the God Learners:

> this interpretation was ultimately overly-simplistic and didn't work

A common fallacy. The God Learners interpretation was over-simplistic, but it did work. It worked very well.

One could liken the God Learners to careless atomic scientists. They discover that they can control chain reactions. They can even make really big explosions. They dream of atomic airplanes. But they neglect to see the environmental cost of careless use.

While in Glorantha the rules of the cosmos changed so that much of what the God Learners did no longer works, in a sense Earthly atomic scientists have faced a similar change. Public opinion has so shifted since the 40s and 50s that it is impossible to research and build safe nuclear power plants, and anyone foolish enough to try flying a reactor would face the Gift Carriers.

I believe that Glorantha didn't change very much, and if any God Learners had survived, they would be able to make corrections and once again control mighty powers. Otherwise why would the Gift Carriers be active today?
