Trolls and fear spells

Ian Gorlick is concerned about the Troll deities giving fear spells when trolls aren't scared of the dark. This makes sense. An easy answer is that the spells don't work on trolls. Against trolls they are contentment or soothing spells. I can just see the Gods Age trolls discovery of this...

"Gee, Gorbash that puny pink thing looks kind of mad we ate his cat.
 What'll we do?"
"I dunno Bash, maybe we should cast a soothe spell on him."
Zzzzappp
"Huh, why he look scared, clutch chest and die?"
"Hmm, maybe we on to something here."

Fear spells from non-troll deities may work perfectly well on trolls. I sure trolls are just as scared of drowning as humans are. All IMO.
