IMO, it depends on use.

I look on it being a physical effect as on earth. Similar to a poison effect. This has a better correlation with troll alcohol being mostly poisonous (to some degree) to humans.

somewhere on Glorantha. <<

Herbal remedies effectively applied by healers do have an effect on infection spirits. Viruses as such don't exist on Glorantha, but the herbal remedies are still efficacious against the infection spirits. IMO it boils down to the physical effect (smell, fortifying, cleansing, relaxing etc ) of the 'herbs' assisting/combining with the spirit of the body to overcome the infection spirits.

I think alcohol could be effectively as part of a herbal remedy against some types of infection spirits. Alcohol could be taken internally (drunk) as part of a treatment for the infection spirits of withering or wasting diseases. Of course there's still nothing like CA chicken soup (made with secret herbs and spices) for Black Tongue. For full details of cures available see your local CA healer.

>> The edition of Questlines for RQCon: Down Under in the article on
"Spirits of the Far Place" mentions the bastard children of Minlister, called "Drunkards". They are the spirits responsible for hangovers, and can be banished with salt and water. <<

This leads me to ask. Does alcohol exist solely in glorantha through the process of fermentation, or do alcohol plants exist?

>> Why aren't there Chalana Arroy "soberers?" <<

There aren't many temples big enough to have specialist detoxification units, so hangover treatments are mostly handled by the poison units. And as from Peter Tracy's post there's no reason why all types of alcoholic drinks have to cause hangovers.

>> What a waste of good booze! Seriously, why would you want to use alcohol on
wounds, <<

I concur. As I try to enlighten above, in glorantha it should makes better sense that alcohol be taken internally to help fight infection spirits on open wounds. Though bandaging the wounds in the first place would have been a better prevention from infection spirits.
