Ken Rolston:
> Your identification of your player characters as borderline nut
cases is also familiar and persuasive. I much enjoyed the entire
treatment.
Thankyou. An important point is that the _players_ are fully aware of
their characters being borderline nutcases and quite different from
normal humanity.
Time for a minor babbling.
You know, there's been some skirmishes between the "farm boy squad"
and the "heroic fantasy squad" out there. I've run the middle road:
The PC's are exceptional people, capable of heroic derring-do, but
the majority of their surroundings are more interested in harvest and
the local girls. The background is as much Low Fantasy as possible,
while the PC's and their main adversaries are clearly Heroic Fantasy.
This puts the PC's in a position where the players are much more
aware of how exceptional they are, both in capability and in psyche.
In other words, they are much more aware of being Heroes (not
necessarily in the ethical sense of the word). This enhances the
enjoyment of play for the group.
Jorganos the Archer makes extremely valid points about the causes and
effects of the Invasion. It doesn't matter how benevolent the Empire
is on its home front; its invasions are still a major pain in the ass
for the invaded. As a side-note, MY modern-day equivalent of the
Lunar Empire has always been the United States of America; a
basically good-natured world power with mostly admirable ideals, who
despite that have commited atrocities both outside and within its own
borders.
