But surely even the rational wizards believe that the 'faeries' exist! Its them pagan spirits that they were warned about in theological college. They think they are real, they just think they are a grave spiritual danger, unworthy of veneration or encouragement, and should be stamped out whenever they occur.
The only grounds I can see for a rational wizard claiming that 'faeries' and such do not exist (given that a wizard is far MORE likely to believe in spirits - they have mystic vision and can summon various spirits, and are at least aware of pagan magics even if they would never use them), is a wizard who firmly believes that all the pagan spirits in a particular area were destroyed by the Saints - and even he would believe in them if he saw them.
