Obscure Lightbringers :

Possibly my biggest shock reading the Dorastor supplement was that the Riskland Orlanthi had the wrong Lightbringers. Yup, no Flesh Man, and someone called "Vinga the Huntress" in Flesh Man's place (see p114 for "The Lightbringers Council").

Yep, there is no universal set of Lightbringers. Different cultures have different lightbringers - I think Humath gets a gurnsey in Ralios, for example.

I queried Greg Stafford over this at a con, and he said Flesh Man and Ginna Jar were "placeholders" who could be replaced by local cultures, with Ginna Jar being the local "spirit of the tribe" and Flesh Man representing if not Everyman, then at least a mortal. (it was a while ago, and forgive me if I got it wrong).

My conclusion is that just as I Fought We Won is a mythological description of the First Council, the Lightbringers Quest is about the missionaries of that council going into the lands of darkness with the hopeful news of the coming of the Sun, and of Peace.
