Good news, John Brown! No one is going to ambush you, tie you to a chair, and force you to play Runequest/Glorantha in John Hughes' style!
It's a game. You get out of it what you bring to it. John Hughes' POV is largely based on an Australian RPG style, involving theatre and personal emotions, not the conventional potato-chip-&-monster-killing bash we're used to elsewhere.
Go ahead - pop open a bag of chips and whack another broo to tiny bits. But remember that some of us enjoy a little catharsis now and then.
