Heroquesting

Personally I like the Orlanthi approach to heroquesting.

Almost everything in their lives has mythical meaning. In a dangerous world their myths add a solidity that makes them as enduring as they are.

Jeff Richard succinctly said that heroquesting is a common event for most Orlanthi, sure they don't go killing Polar Bear gods but they know their gods intimately, discover routes of power to them and become more like their gods through following their ways and myths, the myths that define the deity and therefore the people who worship them.

As for theraputic experience in roleplaying, I dunno. Its fun and fascinating but it ain't real and has little effect on the rest of my life. Its true that most people play themselves though, in one form or another. After I've known someone for a while I have no difficulty in writing a character to suit them. Sometimes they don't even realise they'd like it so much.

My big complaint with HEROQUEST the game is that there isn't one. High ideals are all very well but what I want is product. Hard copy. I don't care if it doesn't capture all the flavour of heroquesting, it'll capture some and thats most important, I can make the rest up myself.

Lets hope the new game gives more scope for the heroic without making it super RQ or whatever.
