IMVHO Pelorian ancestor worship is a purely personal matter & works like this. Within each clan when a child is born they are named after the last person who died. The soul of the dead person transmigrates to the new-born babe. Though the child inherits material goods from their natural parents when they die they recieve -all- their spell foci from their namesake at birth. A fortiori each individual given a particular name is an avatar of the legendary "original" bearer of the name and is expected to display characteristics typical of that name.
I ran a Pelandan soap opera at Vaticon. One of the sub-plots involved a recent mother whose baby son was sickening to death. His namesake died violently and his ghost hadn't been laid to rest, so the child had no soul. When the PCs gave the murdered man a proper funeral his spirit transmigrated and the baby grew up strong and healthy. Runelords might get more of a kick out of discovering that Uncle Joh didn't actually break his neck in the woods: he became a Vivamort cultist and joined the Vampire Legion on its 1629 tour of the Redlands. What about babies born when there are no dead? No doubt some folk say that this is the reason why there are mentally handicapped people. Others sheepishly say that it never happens and then clam up... - -------
