The holywoodian legion is rather different from the real french
foreign legion.
The french foreign legion is not, and never was, a penal corp.
It is only a mercenary corp serving in the french army.
In 1830 there was a revolution in France. The Swiss regiments
refused to swear an oath to the new governement. For this they
were disbanded. Since foreign mercenaries were still available,
a foreign legion was created.
That's why the Eleven or the Danfive Xaron punishment legions
are different from the foreign legion.
+Killing dragons
I think that there was a Carmanian method and a Dara Happan method
to kill dragons.
As I see it, in Dara Happa, the holiest priest of each cult is
an avatar of his god. They receive a portion of the worship during
ceremonies. When a big magic has to be done, the avatars are gathered.
They link their move to their associated deities. Thanks to the link,
their position on the ground is the position of the stars in the sky.
All they have to do is to recreate a sky configuration on the ground
that allows the spell to work.
For example, some star positions are unhealthy to the dragons, some
allow an extension of the glowline.
The dragon kill war ended in disaster, because there are no sky configuration
to destroy many dragons. Some dragons fell, but the magicians get roasted
by the others.
IMO, Lokaymadon tried to become an avatar of Orlanth. In order to be
as powerful as the other avatars he had to unite all the clans religiously,
in order to increase his population base. That is why he imposed new
initition rites througout Osentalka's empire.
