Joseph Troxell mused on Humakti and Resurrection

>What does it mean not to be resurrectable?

Quite a lot, if a character is from Esrolia or other heavily earth-dominated cult(ure)s. The Esrolites have the general belief that when a person dies their spirit goes to the halls of Ty Kora Tek, to wait (and "heal" the "wounds" and experiences the mundane world left) until returning to life, in a new birth.

Now, if an Esrolite becomes a Humakti, he (or she) may not necessarily sever themselves from their kin, but they do sever themselves from the recycling of spirits. When you become a Humakti, you choose your next death as your final appearance in the cycles of life.

What does this mean in such a fertility-obsessed culture?

For males, this could mean the ultimate rebellion - the final removal of one's self from all this birth and rebirth stuff dominated by the matriarchs and their goddess(es).

For females this rebellion might even be worse. In their case, this could be used to sever themselves from the kinship obligations in Esrolite houses - one of which includes that women (usually) grow quite old before allowed to marry.

Want to marry? Become a Humakti, and ignore the matriarch. Humakt as a way to get children???
