It really depends, I suppose, on the spirit's previous relationship with the summoner. A randomly summoned spirit's reaction should be determined randomly (with a healthy allowance for GM evilness).

As far as specific spirits or ancestors are concerned, I generally rule that they are annoyed (but not so annoyed that the attack the summoner). In my view, it would be odd for Grandfather Jed to attack his own grandchildren, but it would not be so odd for him to make a few tart remarks about them dragging him away from the celestial feast (or whatever).

In part, my approach to this issue has been inspired by the ritual used to summon Death in the Ringworld books -- Death is mildly aggrieved to have been summoned, makes a few remarks about the human condition, makes sure he has the last word, and then disappears.
