Humakt

Howdy gang,

Just a few comments on the Cult of Humakt in Taming of Dragon Pass:

Severance: IMO the source of the "Humakt severing himself from kin" is none other than the creator of the cult of Humakt - Arkat. In the First Age, Humath was the native storm/war god of the lowland Ralians. When Lokamayadon begin integrating the Theyalan storm cults into his Orlanth/Orlanatus cult (solving the Erland, Odayla, etc. issues), it looked like Humath was "doomed" to become "just another Orlanth subcult". In comes Arkat, who joins the Barbarian Cult and severs it from the storm, proclaiming that Humath-Arkat is not Orlanth. In other words, Arkat created a new cult out of Humath. When Arkat entered Kethaela many of the warriors in his host joined his new cult.

In the Dragon Pass of the 1350s, this severance aspect is not particularly emphasized by the main tribal cult of Humakt (that of Mad-Blood Malan), although it certainly continues to exist. However, the Lismelder cult of  Humakt, which appears on the scene in just a few years, brings the severance aspect of Humakt to the forefront of the cult's identity (a la Colin Phillips). In other words, there are many Humakt cults.

Resurrection: Nope. I don't believe any of the cults of Humakt in Dragon Pass allow resurrection. Of course, in my campaign that isn't much of a problem. With only one or two Chalana Arroy priestesses in all of Quiviniland (if that), resurrection is incredibly rare. You're better off trying to LBQ down to Hell to find your dead comrades than getting the divine spell.

Yours truly,

Jeff Richard
