Now for a touch of Orlanthi reality, minus Zorak Zoran's eyes, the monomyth, or the details of bladesharp.

Earthseason of 1355, at the Great Cattle Fair at Clearwine. Killer Korol, herald of the Varmandi clan, wed Onelisen, the sister of a thane Barngradus, King of All the Colymar. He received grand gifts from his kinsmen:

from King Barngradus: a mark of silver
from Onelisen's brother: ten cattle
from Baranthos Orlev'sbane: a fine stallion from Theya Two Mothers: the blessing that the Goddess will surely grant the couple a child within the year
from Horselegs the Scapegoat: the assurance that the child will be Korol's, and not his own - a gift that only _he_ could give!

(This gift was aknowedged with great humor by everyone except Killer Korol!)

BTW - the Varmandi clan, after eight years of feuds and war, have no Humakti left alive. Our default executioner is the fellow with the highest "Hate Orleving" passion.

>The problem is that there is no-one to carry on the family line, and if he
severs his relationship, that is the end of a long and proud family.

Therein lies the great unpopularity of Humakt. As desperate as we are for war-skills, no Varmandi has shown interest in joining Humakt. War, although an important endeavor, does not build clans and families. Humakt is the path of the desperate and the bitter.

Witness how Humakt is the path of the Malani, who are renowned for shameful hospitality, find laughter in rudeness and insults, cast justice into the cesspits, and hold kinslayers in high esteem.

The Path of Orlanth the Thunder and his son, Barntar the Bulltamer, are the paths of whole men.

(The opinions expressed above are those of the Varmandi, and in no way reflect the policies of the Seattle Farmers Collective and their Most Esteemed English/Canadian Auxillaries, who are bringing you Glorantha Con V in Victoria, BC, July 25-27, 1997. Be there! Play in a Malani LARP!) Pam
