Joerg Baumgartner:

>Peter Metcalfe (why do so many people drop the last e?)

Beacuse it's silent? A large number of my illiterate ilk have also dropped the e.

>Ralios before the
>Darkness was different, and probably quite unrecognisable to anybody, with
>great "Hsunchen" cities amid the primeval forest.

I think large parts of Ralios were plains as the Galanini would not have been able to dominate Ralios if they were heavily forested.

>Fronela and NW Peloria were invaded by Blue people. Now we know not all
>Waertagi (and relatives) are greenish in skin tone. They and their relatives
>would have known the logicians, and carried their magic.

I don't believe the Blue People of NW Peloria are Waertagi or related to them. They are the bringers of sedentary culture to Peloria which makes them prior to the Golden Age of Peloria. The Waertagi seem to have appeared during the 'Lesser Darkness' according to the Gloranthan Beastiary and the Brithini have records of opposing the Creatures of the Sea prior to this.

Consequently I think the Waertagi were initially confined to the Sea of Neleomi when they appeared and it was only after the Dawn that they managed to conquer the seas - their claims to have done so prior to this is propoganda IMO. That does not rule out widespread golden age communication (like your exised example of megalithic missionaries) but I feel a lot of the contact was indirect.

Me>>I don't understand as this is what Orlanth's Ring now does. Why
>>shouldn't it be doing what it did in the Good Old days rather than
>>having to mirror what some two-bit demigod did when he climbed up
>>some molehill?

>That's hardly the Orlanthi/Theyalan perspective I wanted to portray. I don't
>really care what the Dara Happans (and especially the Yuthuppans) fantasize.

Well the Godi must have also watched the Heavens then.

Me>>And as for the Golden Sky myth, stars were apparently visible back
>>then as the Gods Wall has three star gods (Polaris, Ourania and
>>Oropum).

>Now that's a solid evidence... Dating of Godswall still subject to discussion.

But pre-darkness in any case since the Sun is also visible on the Wall.

>Do the Copper Tablets have any of these?

Polaris and Arraz are visible on the Doom Conjunction when Yelm is still visible (but going fast) in the Sky.

>>[Orlanth's Ring] was _originally_ a planet.

>A son of Yelm?

Entekos?

>>>IMO reliance on the stars came only with the Greater Darkness, and
>>>the Star Captains' aid.

>>Why? It doesn't in Dara Happa and I don't see any reason why it
>>should not be so for everyone else given that stars were visible
>>before then.

>I doubt the "evidence" you cited, and there is a definite myth telling of
>the stars' interaction with the Theyalan peoples. If you believe the Golden
>Sky. I almost prefer the Boggles' creation of stars...

All the myth says is that the Stars helped people during the Great Darkness. It does not forbid them being worshipped _before_ this time. The Entekosiad speaks of the Wendarians having communication with the Bright Ones who are now the Yuthuppan Star People. I do not believe that the NW pelorians were the only ones so blessed.
