Duck Point Press

Chaosium's long term goal is to publish a number of Gloranthan lines, including Gloranthan boardgames, miniatures games, a new role-playing game, and a line of Gloranthan fiction. Collaboration with the Italian game company Stratelibri makes this long term development of multiple Gloranthan product lines feasible.

While we're gearing up to produce the new professional Glorantha publications, we hope to encourage the growing number of excellent fan publications by creating DUCK POINT PRESS, a new distribution label for Gloranthan products. DUCK POINT PRESS products will be sold through Wizard's Attic, a Chaosium subsidiary.

DUCK POINT PRESS is an 'imprint' for Glorantha material which does not match Chaosium's professional publishing plans but which deserves to be widely distributed.

We hope that DPP will encourage the creativity and willingness to explore alternate viewpoints which characterizes much of Gloranthan fandom. We also hope that DPP will bring out Glorantha-flavored games and material that has been inaccessible, or playable only at scattered Glorantha-based conventions. For example, we have played and enjoyed a number of Gloranthan boardgames that we would be happy to help distribute, albeit not as slickly-packaged professional publications at this time.

To give you an idea of DPP's likely publishing standards, GLORIOUS REASCENT OF YELM and the ENTEKOSIAD are now DPP products. DPP will allow the self-publisher to choose their own publishing standards.

Products released by DPP will reflect the authors' interpretations of Glorantha and Gloranthan cosmology. Chaosium isn't going to spend time editing and nit-picking DPP material, as long as it's close enough to right. DPP publications aren't guaranteed to fully reflect Greg Stafford and Chaosium's viewpoint, but if you can deal with this level of necessary ambiguity they will provide maximum doses of Gloranthan fun. Since we are already working on professional product lines for miniatures games, fiction, and roleplaying, it is unlikely that we will approve independent publications containing new systems for such material.

Note that DPP is a central distributor rather than a producer or publisher. Creators will publish their work themselves. Wizards Attic is happy to distribute most all Gloranthan materials, but for products published with the DPP label, Wizard's Attic will require exclusive distribution rights within the United States. DPP manuscripts are also subject to the approval process outlined in a separate post titled "Glorantha Publishing Legal Requirements."

We aren't requiring anyone to use the DPP distribution label. If you would rather publish under another label, or distribute your products within the US yourself, Wizard's Attic will be glad to carry your products assuming you have received approval from us beforehand. Wizard's Attic will continue to stock products from REACHING MOON MEGACORP and other fine vineyards.

Contact Chaosium's Glorantha editor, Rob Heinsoo at BiturianV_at_aol.com about DPP publications. He is not seeking submissions or making assignments for DPP, and does not have time to read large numbers of proposals and manuscripts, but he'll do his best to communicate with those who have serious intentions of self-publishing Gloranthan material. Expect his correspondence to run about a week behind. Before communicating with Rob, make sure you read the "Glorantha Publishing Legal Requirements" information.

We're all looking forward to having some fun with this.

Sincerely,

Rob Heinsoo
