Basic Fertility

There has been a lot of talk about the fertility of Genertela, or, rather, the lack of it, because of Genert being dead (for now). Genert's magic was of the very earth and land itself, so the fertility of living creatures, which is the manifestation of Uleria's power, isn't affected much, unless these creatures were tied to Genert, the land or Earth in general.

Someone suggested that if the fields aren't Bless Cropped there won't be any harvest worth mentioning. In my orlanthing ritual calendar i have a fertility ceremony around Sacred Time to 'awaken' the land from Winterdeath to make it ready to accept the Bless Crops of the sowing time.

This ritual instills or reinstalls the fertility *potential* of the land that it had when Genert was around. It doesn't make it fertile, for which Bless Crops and similar rituals are needed. If the awakening ritual isn't performed the Bless Crops can't be effective.

As i think the priestesses have the ritual Enchant Land, i guess that the fields around Earth temples are permanently fertile, or this could be an effect of the temple magic itself. Malign Earth temples are of course surrounded by a barren expanse of bleak terrain, as the temple sucks in the fertility of the land and turns it into temple magic.
