Replace the Form/Set spells with a generic "magical tool" spell.
When trying to shape a large piece of rock, you'd still need a chisel.
This would than act as a kind of remote manipulator (Waldo) with the magical tool being stronger/larger but guided by the sorceror's movements with the physical token.
It would still require the appropriate skills with the tool.
The advantages bestowed by the spell would be modifications in reach/strength. (Also allowing for micro-maipulation.)
