For the Orlanthi and possibly other peoples, it is true. For the Dara Happans, on the other hand, there is not any real difference between then and now, to the point that there is pretty much an official Dara Happan timeline of all history. It has been implied in published material that Kralorela and Western history/mythology are also not quite so stratified and separate from each other as the Theyalan.

I once tried this, writing Orlanthi HeroQuesst for two paths: to defeat
Daga, God of Drought, and for the Sword of Death. In both cases, David
Hall told me that I shouldn't be doing such major quests, minor quests
were better to do. I'm not sure if this was just fear at how they would
turn out with the little information available in print, or from a desire
to have more playable HQs. Maybe it was just that I hadn't ever written a
HQ before, at the time.
I still have them on disk, and would be willing to post them (5 or 6 years old though they may be) if anyone is interested. As for other HQs of this nature, the River Ritual in River of Cradles is another example of this, as is Waha's Quest (which I will hopefully be reprinting in The Book of Drastic Resolutions, Volume Prax). Nick Effingham has an excellent FoundChild HQ he has been working on, which will hopefully see light soon. I started a Four Magic Weapons Quest, but didn't get very far, I admit.
