Here's why I prefer the word 'dedicate' over `sacrifice'...

The Skill and Knowledge of a Rune Spell are part of what makes my god My god.
When I become an initiate of my god, I don't `sacrifice' power. I dedicate a portion of my soul to (the) god, and in doing so start sharing special cult secrets/powers that originate with my god. That power and that portion of my soul is not lost, but is my link with god forever. It is shared. This is what some call `communion'.
Any time I wish I can choose to reinforce the link with my god. Every time I do so, I learn more, and understand better.
