Surely, if he died in the battle, they would have said that his spirit fought on after his death, giving his followers the (claimed non-)chaotic ability to engage one's slayer in spirit attack after death.

Instead, I suggest something like this:

YF resurrected himself, defeated Humakt, and lived on to
command the post-battle mop-up operations. 40 days after
(or the equivalent in Yuthuppan numerology to a Hebrew 40
days, which just meant a lot) he called his troops together,
bid them farewell and Goddess-speed, and Apotheosized in a
fashion similar to (but hopefully more dignified than) the
final scene in the "Rune Metal Jacket" scenario. Thus, we
see, Yanafal lives on in his Army, as well as on the Red Moon.

This way the ritual for creating a Regimental wyter follows the pattern established (or repeated, more likely) by the patron of the entire Red Army (its super-wyter).

It also would kill all rumors that he just died in the battle, without really resurrecting.
