5-6 clans is probably the bare minimum for most Orlanthi tribes -- the
Colymar tribe has about 12; two other tribes are mentioned somewhere or
other, with 8 and 10 clans each. So, I would assume the _average_ number
of clans per tribe is 8, which drops your clan size down from 1200 to
about 900 -- a bit more workable, in my estimation.
