+Praxian magical societies
Stephen Martin raises an interesting point about survival in Prax.
Sandy said that most nomads lived in clan size groups. A five days sandstorm is a threat for everyone in Prax. Maybe the Wind Singers can lessen its impact, but even they will suffer.
Once the nasty shaman (a good material for the Sunset society) is expelled
from his clan, he does not have to live alone.
If he wants to be respectable he can join a Storm Bull band, a
storm khan is often ready to accept a powerful magician who wants to
fight chaos.
He can join the Cannibal cult, since their goal are similar (once the Golden
Age is restored, the ghosts will be apeased)
If he was not a Pol Joni, he can join this tribe.
He can join a Gagarthi band, he will become a criminal.
(BTW what is the Wild Hunt, what is a star bear ?)
But his best option is to join the permanent members of the Sunset society.
Each member is a Praxian, so each of them knows how to hunt, how to herd
and how to gather plants. They may not be good at it, but they know the
basics of survival.
The permanent members provides a link for the members who live in their
clans. It allows for new member to join, to plan the next step in order to
reach their goal, and to exchange news.
Each Praxian clan has a circuit, every 10 years or so they are near
the Block to make Khans for example. The magical societies have their
circuit that allows them to meet with their tribal members each year or so.
In fact each magical society is a non tribal clan, like each band of Storm
Bullis or each band of Gagarthi.
+Spell spirits
I see the spell spirits as the flowers (or the fruits) in the spirit plane.
Once used, it is detroyed so to speak, but new ones grow each year.
To teach a spell, a shamans has to know a place where spell spirits of the
spell he wants to teach grow.
The power spirits are the equivallent of rabbits, passion spirits are nasty predators.

My theory about the open seas ritual is that under this spell, a ship does
not leave the coast, she comes from the edge of the world. It is as if she
never came from the land. The Luatha used the same trick IMO. It allows me
to explain how some Waertagi dragonship survived the Closing. They followed
the same path as the firebergs. They went into Magasta's Pool, sailed the
ocean of eternal return and came back from hell by Zaramaka's current.
So long as they did not come near the land, they were immune to the curse.
After Dormal reopened the seas, it was a question of time before they caught
a ship with someone aboard willing to teach the ritual (it is unfortunate
that the Waertagi had to keep their survival secret)
