>I was thinking hard about how to account for the fact that the Pharoh
>does not suffer from the 'pressure' that we have been told again and
>again forces most Heroes to leave the Mundane World and apotheosise.

He has already apotheosised according to Trollpak. The word you want is retired. But I don't see what is wrong with the current belief that the Pharaoh wears out bodies to remain in the material world. Surely the premature aging of the bodies is the result of the these pressures?

>>(Something similar happens to the Egi in the Lunar ritual.)

>There! Perfect! (If I say so myself!) A neat way to sidestep the burdens
>of Godhood and have all the benefits.

I don't think the Egi become Gods so the God that is the Red Emperor can walk freely among men. Rather they receive the worship of the Moon People and worship the Red Emperor themselves. The Lunars as did the Solars before them incarnate gods but do not receive their memories nor eternal life. The strength of the incarnation depends upon many factors such as the virtue of the vessel, the sacrifices which he receives and prayers said for him.

Stephen Lucek:

>There is a problem with applying this position to Orlanth. At the fall of
>Whitewall the Lunars declare that the last Orlanthi city has fallen, and
>Orlanth is defeated and dead.

No, no, NO! Orlanth is *NOT* dead. He has been *conquered* which is something completely different! Have a look at your sources and see if you can find a mention of the Lunars claiming that Orlanth is dead after the fall of Whitewall. I've quoted them enough times on this digest to show that this is not true.

V S Greene:

> What written languages in Glorantha are phonetic as opposed to
>ideographic? AiG indicates that Theyalan Runes are used as an alphabet in
>Esrolian but as ideograms elsewhere, and I gather that written New Pelorean
>is phonetic. Any others?

The Dara Happan script is alphabetic. The Pelandan script is ideogrammic although it shares similarities with the Dara Happan script. AFAIK the Western Script is alphabetic.

Rick Ohlson:

>Specifially, I was wondering just how literate 1620ish Glorantha is.
>Using the crummy character creation rules, Barbaraian initiates get
>read/write own language for each year in the cult. Does this mean that
>Orlanthi have Big Bibles?

It means the Orlanthi rely on oral traditions for transmission of knowledge. This is changing as the written word is becoming more common.
