Dave Bailey muses about the marriage between Pavis and the Red Goddess. Well, apart from Nick Brooke, Michael Raaterova and Axel Hasheider, I should be most knowledgeable about this - after all, I filled exactly this role in Peoples of Pavis...

>Usually this takes the form
>of magical gifts, new powers, influence beyond his own. Pavis can then
>either accept, in which case everyone is happy, or reject the offer in
>which case the Lunars fall on the Rubble like a ton of bricks and trash
>the Temple. Hard Choice.

If you read the Pavis Box carefully, and forget the misleading idea that Pavis could be an Orlanthi deity, or opposed to the Lunar religion by principle, you will find that both Son of Pavis Benderri and Daughter of Pavis Cyrilius Harmonious have been working actively towards this end for several years. Their cult-internal opposition - by the Orlanthi-influenced Pavis priests following Fleeter Nemm's lead - has worked against that goal. Overall, there seems to have been a balance of power, and of course hierarchy, which held the situation in an undecided state. This seems to have been enabled by Marusa the Patient, High Priestess of the 7Moms in Pavis, and in charge of that project.

If ever another Lunar priest will get to negotiate these proceedings - as happened in Peoples of Pavis, thanks to Nick - Lunar pressure might well be stepped up to the extent that the Lunars will threaten the temple and, as important, the city of Pavis.

The carrot to this stick might be not magical items - the Rubble has enough even to share with the Lunars - but political concessions, like making citizens of Pavis citizens or something like citizen-foreigners of the glorious empire, and giving access to the Lunar (and other imperial) magics.

Considering that the main foes of the Pavisites are the nomads, followed by the trolls, an alliance with the Lunars in addition to that with the Sartarite settlers can only be of advantage.

This year's German RQ-Con freeform saw me (Cyrilius Harmonious) in the role of Pavis marry the priestess of the Red Goddess amid great ceremony and magic. If I understood Nick's parting instructions to the priestess correctly, I am destined for an angelic existance on the moon... ;-)
