I don't think the answer is quite that simple. You must consider that Ducks breath and Undead don't. Try to visualize a mob of Undead stalking the bottom of a shallow pond. They silently reach up and grab your (webbed) feet and drag you underwater until you stop struggling. How may underwater wrestling matches do you think Ducks would win?

I don't know why Ducks prosper on the fringe of the Upland Marsh, but I'm skeptical of claims that it's military superiority.
