I first thought you meant 'cheer on' in more metaphorical terms.
We now have this quaint river-folk tradition of cheering the little waves that hide downstream of rocks on upstreams. The pertinent question is: why?
I suppose that the river-folk has a tradition of cheering the little waves upstreams, the reason for which is long forgotten for cheering the waves, and keep doing it since it is traditional.
Children maybe challenge each other to see how far upstream they can make a particular wave jump. Wizened river mystics may read the upstreams jumping of waves as an omen, and especially read how and when the waves 'die', i.e. get subsumed into the downstream flow.
I like it. It's a good example of the ubiquitous but largely useless magic of Glorantha.
