The latter. If the world machine hadn't been broken by Chaos then it would still be perfect, and it would still be unbreakable.

Neither. Chaos implies the END of all that is real and possible, as the imposition of the unreal and impossible upon the universe tears it into tatters.

A fair question in Moorcock's mythos, but incorrect in Glorantha. Gloranthan Chaos doesn't seek to change the world. Gloranthan Chaos seeks to destroy the universe.

Other than Gods of Glorantha, the only good source I have seen is a story someone (Jim Chapin?) wrote on the digest about the Last Icebreaker, which had some pretty good stuff about ice demons and an incarnation of Valind.
