PETER METCALFE answering me:

>>Whence come the Spirits of Law (or Wakbothfoes as i tend to call them to
>>avoid the Law-Chaos opposition) that Waha and Stormbull have access to? How
>>do they manifest?
>
>I think they are adamantine spirits of the block. Although this
>raises the question of why Waha can get them. To which I say...
>urm...er...ask ibbe farqifno..

I reread the sources and found that my memory has played tricks on me. According to RoC and Tales#15, Waha is the source of Spirits of Law, not Stormbull.

Since Peter's suggestion that the spirits of law are in fact spirits of the Block has merit, i suggest that the write-ups are wrong, and that the spirits should belong to Stormbull and not Waha (though he still gets them as Stormbull's associate). Divination to ibbe farqifno has confirmed the validity of such a proposal.

Also, i suspect that there are several "valid" explanations among the nomads as to what the spirits of law are. They could be spirits of the Block or of the Copper Sands, or they could be the ghosts of stormbull cultists slain by chaos, or splinters of the Stormbull itself.

Are spirits of law known to followers of Stormbull outside of Prax?

Peter, your answers to my questions more or less echo my own sentiments, so i'll go with them.

>>Also, can they attack disease spirits (if disease spirits in fact are
>>chaotic)?
>
>I don't think disease spirits are chaotic enough.

In fact, rereading the Malia write-up and the reminiscences of Paulis in LoT, it seems that disease spirits or Disease Masters aren't necessarily chaotic at all.

>>Can they attack chaotic spirits possessing someone?
>
>If the possession was dominant, yes.

>>Can they "cure" a broo impregnation?
>
>I think the broo masks itself in the aura of the victim. Thus
>to kill the broo, the victim would have to lose the spirit
>combat and when reduced to zero magic points, loses 1d6 POW.

When the chaotic spirit is covertly possessing someone, couldn't the spirit of law attack it as if curing a broo impregnation? I think there should be a big risk that the victim is killed as well (Stormbull is, after all, more into brute strength than skill).

>>Can they be used
>>to cleanse stuff befouled or cursed by chaos (like chaos-tainted god
>>crystals)?
>
>It would leave the object scarred and unsuable methinks.

Which is perfect, gamewise, since it eliminates munchkinism.

>>Do they automatically sense chaos?
>
>I suspect that they would have to fight one round of spirit
>combat with a mundane foe to find if it was chaotic or not.
>Normally they are directed to an obvious chaotic foe by the
>summoner.

So, one could assume that shamans of Waha, if no followers of Stormbull are available, use spirits of law as a test of purity for suspected chaos worshippers?

Another question: would Impede Chaos be effective on a spirit of law?
