SM>> So, Chris, how do you get to the
>> temple at Kero Fin from Fonrit during the Closing? :)

>Rather easy, actually... Sylphs. A bound Sylph of large enough size could
>take someone over the sea for the arduous journey.

To which the average bound time is something on the order of 15 minutes. Scarcely enough time to fly to the 4500 km to pamaltela and back (which is at least 150 hrs flying time* nonstop and requires something like an extension 9). Good luck!

*calculated on the basis that the sylph is travelling at max speed of 500 metres a minute all the time. Which is what careful exegesis of Monster Collesium suggests a CON-less creature may do. But I have my strongest doubts.

>I've always seen Orlanth as more
>of a trans-cultural God than most anyway, and a major reason for the
>conflict between The Red Goddess and Orlanth may well be the fact that the
>Lord of Winds is as close to a universal deity as Genertela may have, along
>with Ernalda and the Invisible God, a role that Rulfelza wants for herself.

Some facts. Ernalda is primarily worshipped in Esrolia and South Peloria. Her influence disappears as one goes into Ralios or Fronela and is absent in the extreme west and the wastelands. She is not worshipped in Pamaltela either on the coast (where they worship the Grain Goddesses nor in the Interior where Faranar is known).

DD>> Hmm, an interesting idea. It's true that the spell description says
>> there's no range limitation, but teleporting from Genertela to Pamaltela
>> seems wrong to me.

>How does that seem wrong, Dave? Orlanth rose in the blink of an eye from
>Magasta's Pool to join the Lightbringers on Mastakos. The myth seems to
>support it.

Which myth is this? KoS implies that the paths of Mastakos are less flexible than the guided teleport spell suggests.

>> Remember, one of the themes of the Third Age is the breakdown in
>> communications (e.g. the Closing and the Ban).

>The closing only inhibits surafce shipping. As power as he is, I doubt
>Zzabur could defy the owner of the very mobility rune himself (Mastakos),
>or the chieftain of the entire array of the Storm Gods (Orlanth.)

But Zzabur's own pappy has cursed both the Sun and Storm Gods and Zzabur himself has cast a massive spell that brought the world back to life. So he can do what he pleases...

>Do note
>that the two deities here are the respective double owners of the Mobility
>and Air runes, respectively. That Zzabur's curse can mess with mortal
>shipping I can accept, but inhibit workings of the major Rune Gods? That's
>crazy-talk.

The Ban which was brought about by a lesser mortal than Zzabur managed to sever communications in fronela to such an extent that 'Temples to a single diety were unable to communicate with each other, even through the diety' the Glorantha Book p27.

Thus it appears that mortals are quite able to interfere with the workings of major rune gods.

>Another assumption that can be made is that the Orlanth heirarchy in
>Pamaltela was well established by the time of the closing, and was ready.

_What_ hierarchy in Pamaltela? All Orlanthi in Umathela were firmly under the thumb of the Elves at the end of the Second Age.

>I can imagine that during the Closing, a small trickle of
>Priests moved back and forth between continents with news and such, enough
>to keep Ideology and belief intact, but no more.

Why would they want to considering that most Orlanthi Priests won't even co-operate with people outside their own clan or tribe? The people on the other continent have their own contacts to the Storm God (with divination et al) so they don't need reinforcements of ideology and belief.
