G'day all,

Multiple Moonsons

Stephen Martin:

>OK, this is going to sound like I'm being petty, and maybe it is (though
>it is not intended to be), but the idea of multiple Moonsons goes back a
>wee bit farther than MOB or Nick could possibly be responsible for:
[digs up two quotes written when Nick and I (and CV Gidlow, who was also involved in this) were in Nursery school].

It was these early writings that actually got us looking at the Red Emperor.

The change in Greg's thinking we helped foster was the evolution from the Red Emperor thought of as a succession of identical figures, indistinguishable from one another, to Moonson, who (post-Sheng) has been a succession of Masks, individuals with their own natures and personalities, quirks and foibles who were once mortals but proved their divine inheritance and returned from the Moon incarnate as the son of the goddess (or were later denounced as False Masks, Proxies, etc).

Nevertheless the mystique and iconography is such that the common folk of the Empire might see Moonson as the same figure through the ages (compare to Imperial Rome). But somehow I think the real goings-on in the City of Dreams are much more interesting, and with immeasurably more potential for MGF!*

Cheers

MOB *BTW, Peter's recent idea that there might have been (still is?) some sort of post-Manzikert "captive Red Emperor" held somewhere in Kralorela is one of the coolest things I've heard in a long while!

Note: the well is drying up for "From the Notes from Nochet" files, so I'll

be quoting from Book XXIX, Subsection V for while.
