Perhaps this "custom" of mistreatment of male oasis folk (or other male captives as well) by the nomads is the origin of the Sun County taboo about crossdressing. It's not so much the odd Somashi influences as the nomad-derived idea that men in women's clothing are castrati (eunuchs even).
If you were a Sun Domer, how would you feel if someone suggested your menfolk were through decadence losing (or had already lost) the ability to use their "spears"? ;)
